Stockport is all about its market. in 1260 it was granted a licence to be a market town and there has been a market in the Market Place ever since. The Market Hall was built in 1861 and was known locally as the ‘glass umbrella’. Now, in the 21st century, this Grade II listed building is still home to over 30 businesses providing a wide range of high quality goods and services. Also held here are regular events including Stockport Artisan Markets, Vintage Market, Book and Record Fair and the ever popular Foodie Friday.
