1861 to today

A long history of selling crafts, food and drink to local people.

Stockport is all about its market.  in 1260 it was granted a licence to be a market town and there has been a market in the Market Place ever since. The Market Hall was built in 1861 and was known locally as the ‘glass umbrella’. Now, in the 21st century, this Grade II listed building is still home to over 30 businesses providing a wide range of high quality goods and services.  The Market Place is also home to a number of other exciting independent shops, bars and restaurants  as well as weekly, monthly and bi-monthly indoor and outdoor markets and events such as the ever popular Foodie Friday.  Visit us and explore all that the Market Place and surrounding area has to offer. You won’t be disappointed.
